Co-founded by the husband-wife team of Tod Machover and June Kinoshita, Hanoa Productions, Inc., provides content production, project management, and strategic consulting in music, biomedicine, patient advocacy, communications, and marketing. We generate our own projects as well as consult to organizations and companies. Hanoa Productions has access to a diverse network of exceptionally qualified creative and technological partners that it can draw on for specific projects.

Here are some of our most recent projects:

  • Symphony for the Koreas will be the latest installment of the celebrated City Symphony series. Over the next few years, Tod Machover and his team will collaborate with citizens from both South and North Korea to create a symphony that reflects what both sides have in common, where conflicts remain, and what might be effective, realistic, and peaceful ways to resolve conflicts through music.
  • Schoenberg in Hollywood was commissioned by the Boston Lyric Opera and premiered in November 2018. With a libretto by Simon Robson and directed by renowned choreographer Karole Armitage, the opera explores the complex relationship between uncompromising art and mass appeal, and of whether—and how—art can change the world.
  • City Symphonies. Since 2013, Tod has been commissioned by major symphony orchestras in Toronto (2013), Edinburgh (2013), Perth (2014), Lucerne (2015), Detroit (2015), and Philadelphia (2018), to create an acclaimed series of City Symphonies, which innovated new models for bringing together diverse communities through collaborative compositions and performances.
  • Fensadense is a work for 10-piece ensemble composed by Tod Machover, commissioned for the Lucerne Festival in the of summer 2015. The project represents the next generation of hyperinstruments, involving the measurement of relative qualities of many performers where previous systems only looked at a single performer. The project premiered at the Lucerne Festival, and a spring European tour concluded in May 2016.
  • Vocal Vibrations. This installation by Tod Machover and Neri Oxman opened at Le Laboratoire in Paris on March 27, 2014 and came to Cambridge, Massachusetts, in the fall of 2014.
  • Death and the Powers: The Robots’ Opera – Finalist for the 2012 Pulitzer Prize in music. Tod’s “robotic” opera premiered in 2010 and was enthusiastically received by audiences and critics. It has since been staged by the Chicago Opera Theater and the Dallas Opera, where it was simultaneously livecast in HD to ten cities around the world.
  • “…but not simpler…” – CD of Tod’s recent instrumental music, hailed as “an absolutely stunning experience” by classical music critic Phil Muse.
  • Hyperscore – a software tool to unlock the music creativity in anyone. Hyperscore’s intuitive interface allows you to create complex music compositions regardless of previous formal music training. Watch here for news of exciting collaborations.
  • Opera of the Future is our blog about the MIT Media Lab’s Opera of the Future group. The blog documents the creative process and experiments in novel approaches to engaging audiences in new music.
